REPORTS: Principal (and/or other designated building administrators)

JOB GOAL: To help students acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes that society feels will contribute to their development into mature, able and responsible men and women. Teachers prepare students for college and careers and teach classes. Five years of teacher experience required.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with and between school and community.
  • Write and speak effectively.
  • Guide the development of curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Demonstrate effective listening, conflict resolution, and group facilitation skills as a team member.
  • Communicate a breadth of content knowledge across the subject(s) taught.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the subject(s) taught.
  • Teach to students' ability levels and learning styles.
  • Connect content knowledge to real-world applications.
  • Develop instruction that encourages application of knowledge, skills, and thinking processes.
  • Use creative and appropriate technologies to enhance learning.
  • Develop and implement assessment processes.
  • Incorporate learning experiences that foster adaptability, flexibility, resourcefulness, and creativity.
  • Use past teaching experiences to anticipate instructional challenges.
  • Communicate with and challenge students supportively, providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain positive classroom interactions with appropriate expectations.
  • Exhibit professionalism, including confidence, preparation, politeness, tidiness, dress, and punctuality.
  • Set and communicate high expectations for learning.
  • Model skills, concepts, attributes, and thinking processes.
  • Encourage students to reflect on ideas.
  • Utilize media and technologies effectively.
  • Provide opportunities for practice and application.
  • Identify misconceptions and offer guidance and feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Supervisory Requirements: None

Qualification Requirements: Bachelor's degree or higher, valid Indiana certification, and five years of teaching experience. Ability to work effectively with students, peers, and adults, and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.

Skills: Mathematical concepts, problem-solving, effective communication, technology proficiency, and positive interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands: Regular talking, hearing, standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, lifting up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment: Usually quiet, smoke-free environment. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.

Terms of Employment: Salary, benefits, and work year as per collective bargaining agreement.

Evaluation: Performance evaluated according to the Board's policies on certified personnel.
