Job summary

The East Side Union High School District seeks a skilled, passionate Dance Coach to provide in-class hip-hop instruction. The coach will work with a credentialed teacher at District High Schools, supporting intermediate, advanced, and company-level classes throughout the school year.

Responsibilities include teaching hip-hop and other genres, choreographing for school productions, and assisting with rehearsals and show logistics across district sites.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in teaching and choreographing hip-hop and at least one other genre (jazz, tap, ballet, or modern).
• Experience teaching high school‑aged students in an educational or studio setting.
• Strong classroom management and culturally responsive teaching practices.
• Preferred: Degree or formal training in Dance or Performing Arts.
• Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
• Familiarity with public school arts programs and working with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

• Deliver in-class dance coaching in collaboration with site dance teacher.
• Teach technical skills, choreography, and performance readiness in hip-hop and additional genres (jazz, ballet, tap, modern).
• Choreograph or support student choreography for school productions and district events.
• Foster student creativity, discipline, and teamwork in a culturally responsive and inclusive environment.
• Attend and assist in tech rehearsals and performances.
• Communicate effectively with site staff, students, and families as needed.
• Support costume planning, rehearsal management, and show logistics.
• Person serving in this capacity would be assigned to District Dance courses.
• May need to teach at multiple sites to meet requirement of base assignment.
