Job summary

Medford High School is seeking a Head Cross Country Coach responsible for managing the team and ensuring athletes' success both on and off the field. The coach will guide participants in skill development, maintain records, and support students in their academic and athletic pursuits throughout the school year.

Qualifications

  • Maintain accurate records of team lists, injury reports, scores of games, stats (report to athletic office and newspapers as requested), incident reports, physical examinations.

  • Be available during the entire school year to lend assistance in guidance and counseling to his/her team members, i.e. scholastic achievement, college entrance, citizenship.

  • Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate.

  • Responsible for helping with determining the athlete's academic eligibility.

  • Carries out rules and policies contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook and the Student Handbook.

  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility of the area in which the assigned sport is played at all times that students are present.

  • Be present at each practice session and at all contests of the sport coached. This includes supervision, always, of the weight room, and locker room areas until the area is secured before and after practices and contests and bus trips.

  • Enforce discipline and always encourage sportsmanship like behavior. These standards are those set down by the Principal and Athletic Department.

  • Attend all Athletic Department meetings that deal directly with the sport coached. Including MIAA, GBL, Coaches Associations and Athletic Awards meetings. Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect their sport.

  • Develop an organized written practice plan to include adequate warm-up and cool-down procedures daily.

  • Gives personal support to the entire MHS staff, including school principal, school assistant principals and teachers.

  • Establish avenues of communication with other adults to identify potential resources for the enhancement of MHS athletics;

  • Work with community members who are involved in youth sports in order to encourage the young athletes to continue to participate in sports at the high school level.

  • Organize and instruct clinics for the youth programs and coaches of your individual sport. Directly supervise squad members at home and away contests.

  • Assists in the distribution and collection of all uniforms and equipment. Coaches are responsible for equipment not returned by his team members at the designated time.

  • Organize and post a daily schedule for the team and assistant coaches.

  • In collaboration with the Athletic Director, assist students with college athletic recruiting by providing video, coaching reports or other support to play at the post secondary level.

  • Performs all other duties as the principal and or athletic director may deem to be in the best interest of the sport, pupil, and school.

  • Previous coaching experience is desirable.

  • Previous experience in either high school, college or both is desirable.

  • Knowledge of sport and its rules, and ability to instruct players in all facets of the sport.

  • Evidence of ability to get along with pupils, parents, colleagues, and other citizens.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college preferred.

  • CPR / first aid Certification
