Job summary

Mecklenburg County School District in Baskerville, Virginia, seeks a 26-27 SY High School Speech Coach for the upcoming school year. This is a Supplement Extracurricular Activity Contract, part-time, and focused on developing students’ debate and speaking skills.

The coach will lead practices, select staff, ensure program compliance, monitor student eligibility, and partner with the athletic department to promote the speech program within the school and community. Starting date TBD.

Qualifications

• Middle/high school coaching experience preferred.
• Knowledge of teaching, managing, and coaching the sport.
• Background checks completed per MCPS policy.
• Annual participation in coaching clinics/development programs.
• Non-CDL Bus Driver certification before season start.
• Employment in the school division is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Program management and collaboration: supervise staff and ensure policies are followed.
• Athlete development: teach fundamentals, build confidence and sportsmanship.
• Leadership: model professional conduct and promote positive behavior.
• Safety: enforce safety protocols and injury prevention.
• Academic support: monitor eligibility and offer tutoring as needed.
• Practice and game management: organize practices and season scheduling.
• Discipline and supervision: enforce rules inside and outside season.
