Job summary

Sheridan High School, part of Sheridan County School District No. 2, seeks a friendly and committed girls basketball coach for the 9th Grade A Team. The role reports to the Head Coach and supports player selection, practice observation, and game-day decisions while promoting safety and sportsmanship.

The position includes a seasonal stipend and requires ongoing certification upkeep, with a focus on developing players both on and off the court.

Qualifications

• Obtain current endorsement through the Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) prior to the start of coaching responsibilities.
• Maintain all appropriate certifications (CPR, First Aid) and immunizations.

Responsibilities

• The assistant coach helps the head coach in choosing players for the team and assigning them to a position.
• He/she will need to help with tryouts and separate the players into varsity and junior varsity teams based on skill, teamwork and potential.
• Observe players in practice to determine starters and monitor improvement.
• Be knowledgeable about the sport rules and related regulations.
• Assist with paperwork and be familiar with various regulations.
• Maintain a good relationship with the team while providing leadership.
• Support students working through injuries or academic challenges.
• Equipment used includes athletic gear, weight room and athletic training room as needed.
