Qualifications

• Highly qualified in the content area and licensed to teach English as a Second Language in Massachusetts.
• Massachusetts ESL educator license for grades 5-12 required; bachelor’s degree with valid license, or master’s degree with license preferred within 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
• Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Guides learning toward district curriculum goals and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
• Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation as required by the contract.
• Employs varied instructional techniques and media suited to location and student needs.
• Assess student progress regularly and communicate with parents as needed.
• Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy.
• Diagnose learning challenges and seek district specialist assistance as needed.
• Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; follow district conduct code.
• Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and provide evaluations as required.
• Pursue ongoing professional growth and participate in teacher evaluation processes.
