ABOUT ICEF PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Inner City Education Foundation (ICEF) Public Schools was founded over 20 years ago with the mission to prepare all students to attend and compete at the top 100 colleges and universities in the nation. ICEF operates seven public, tuition-free schools serving students in grades TK-12 in some of Los Angeles’ most underserved communities. ICEF has a proven record of success with our rigorous college and career preparatory curriculum supported by rich experiences for students in the arts and athletics, helping to prepare all students for success in life and career.

Position Description

Essential Functions

Teaching Methods
  • Teachers are expected to employ a wide variety of teaching methods designed to create opportunities for deep understanding and differentiated instruction for all levels of ability within a class, including serving students identified with special needs.
  • Teachers are expected to use ICEF Common Assessments and Unit Assessment results to determine differentiated instruction needed for low and high performing students.
  • Teachers are expected to implement ICEF’s Essential Elements and Core Values: Instructional Model College-Going Culture, College Style Discourse, College Level Analytical Writing, College Style Study Habits, and Backward Mapping to College Standards, and the use of technology through Blended learning.
Learning Environment
  • Teachers will create and maintain a nurturing, structured, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Teachers are expected to have a coherent plan for classroom discipline and to keep clear and specific documentation of all interventions taken to correct student behavior before referring a student out of class.
Performance and Grading
  • Teachers are expected to aspire to effective performance in all areas of the ICEF core values, principles, and instructional strategies as described in the ICEF Teacher Effectiveness Framework.
  • Teachers will provide clear information to students and parents regarding class objectives, weekly assignments, homework requirements, grading rubrics, and grading scale.
  • Teachers are expected to use Illuminate to maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, and coursework, and to submit student report cards and school-wide assessment records on time.
Collaboration
  • Teachers are expected to collaborate with Special Education Team and ELL Support Staff to ensure that students with additional needs are able to access the curriculum.
  • Teachers are expected to attend and participate in monthly Parent Engagement Meetings, Back-to-School Nights, Parent Conferences, and office hours/tutoring as communicated by the administration and track all efforts to create consistent and meaningful communication with parents.
Curriculum
  • Teachers will create a powerfully engaging curriculum designed to move students toward meeting the proficient performance of the high priority standards identified in ICEF Instructional Guides and California Common Core Standards.
  • Teachers will regularly provide lesson plans to the Principal as requested.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Teachers are expected to participate actively in all professional development sessions.
  • Teachers will work required school hours (half an hour before the school day begins to 4:00 p.m.), dress professionally, and adhere to the professional code of conduct.
  • Teachers will perform other duties as assigned by the school Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree – required, Master’s - preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Multiple/Single Subject (internship, preliminary, or clear) California Teaching Credential.
  • Possession of either a Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language or Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; a Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; a Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC); or a Language Development Specialist (LDS) certificate is desirable; EL Authorization.
  • Desire to teach in an urban school environment.
  • Confident in managing student behavior.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change easily.
  • Demonstrated success working with students from educationally underserved areas.
