Position Description

We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic, and creative Learning Specialist with experience teaching Middle and High School English for a full‑time position beginning in August 2026. The Learning Specialist will inspire students in an inclusive, nurturing learning community to achieve personal and academic excellence, using differentiation, individualization, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The role includes teaching approximately four class sections, serving as advisors, mentoring at least one club, leading extracurricular activities, and participating fully in school life. Additional duties may involve chaperoning field trips and supporting remediation in the Learning Center.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate expertise in general and special education.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, including in co‑teaching models.
  • Guide associate teachers in student instruction.
  • Implement tiered lesson plans with a UDL framework.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Enforce expectations for behavior and community harmony.
  • Partner with educators, therapists, and other professionals on support strategies.
  • Serve as an advisor to a student group.
  • Mentor at least one club.
  • Integrate contemporary curricula, texts, and technology into instruction.
  • Contribute to CSE meetings and yearly goal reviews.
  • Communicate regularly with students, faculty, administration, and families.
  • Attend weekly faculty, team, and committee meetings; participate in school functions and professional development.
  • Meet deadlines for progress reports and administrative tasks.
  • Contribute broadly to the spirit and life of students, the community, and the mission of IDEAL.
  • Uphold IDEAL’s mission, philosophy, principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with a Special Education designation.
  • Lead classroom teaching experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with a Special Education or related designation.
  • Special Education designation and/or experience preferred.
  • Independent school experience preferred.
  • 2-3 years of relevant, hands‑on teaching experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a co‑taught/inclusive setting.
  • Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning.
