Job summary

Kent Intermediate School District's KEC Oakleigh in Grand Rapids, Michigan seeks a Special Education Teacher – Emotional Impairment to deliver structured, evidence-based instruction aligned with IEPs. The role collaborates with staff, develops individualized objectives, and uses data-driven approaches to support students’ academic, social, and behavioral growth.

The position requires EI endorsement and a bachelor’s degree in education, with prior EI classroom experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited university.
• Special Education Certification with Emotional Impairment Endorsement.
• Experience in EI classrooms and with 9th-12th grade preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and promote the special education philosophy of service and delivery.
• Evaluate students’ skills using formal assessments.
• Plan comprehensive programs to develop academic, communication, social and community skills.
• Develop instructional objectives based on assessments and update as needed.
• Provide direct instruction for students with disabilities in academic, communication, social, and transition areas.
• Collect, maintain and analyze data on students’ progress and goals.
• Collaborate with staff to provide integrated services and support.
• Develop and monitor IEPs and document progress.
• Maintain electronic logs of goals, accommodations and services.
• Assess and modify instruction for EI students and implement behavior supports.
