A leading educational institution is seeking a College & Career Center Advisor to support students in their educational and career planning. The role involves coordinating resources, advising on college admissions, and assisting with career opportunities. Ideal candidates will have strong communication and organizational skills, along with relevant educational experience.
COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER ADVISOR
BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, coordinate activities and information, provide various student support services, and maintain resources at an assigned College & Career Center; provide information and assistance to students concerning college and career planning.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Coordinate activities and information, provide support services, and maintain resources at the College & Career Center; advise students and disseminate informational materials regarding post-secondary education, vocational, and career options; work closely with the Counseling Office and site counselors to coordinate services and resources.
Provide information and assistance to students and parents concerning college admissions, job prospects, educational programs, and other career opportunities; respond to inquiries and provide information on standards, practices, requirements, timelines, and procedures.
Assist students in establishing goals, selecting and preparing for college, and completing applications; help students, parents, and teachers locate, evaluate, and select career planning materials and resources.
Maintain and update library resources such as brochures, catalogs, reference books, forms, applications, and scholarship and financial aid information.
Assess student abilities, qualifications, and interests; assist in developing post-secondary plans; stay informed on college and employment trends; administer interest tests as needed; coordinate visits by college and employer representatives; visit classes to promote the Center; notify students of job, testing, and community service opportunities.
Compose and distribute correspondence, flyers, newsletters, and assist with admission essays.
Communicate with personnel, administrators, schools, colleges, employers, and outside agencies; operate office equipment.
Maintain records and reports; train volunteers and student assistants; monitor supplies; participate in outreach, meetings, and events; keep current on college admissions processes.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Methods and strategies for career and post-secondary education; college admissions procedures; informational resources; office practices; English language skills; computer operation; interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to: Coordinate activities; advise students; maintain resources; assist with college and career planning; prepare correspondence and reports; operate a computer; communicate effectively; establish cooperative relationships.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school graduation, supplemented by college coursework in counseling or related fields, plus two years of experience in a guidance or educational environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment: Office setting with frequent interruptions.
Physical Demands: Dexterity, hearing, speaking, bending, reaching, sitting/standing, visual requirements, lifting; background check required.
