Description

High School Chemistry teachers are responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grades 9-12. Teachers must collaborate with the EHS Science Department and Department Head throughout the year to improve student outcomes. Candidates should be familiar with Massachusetts High School Science Standards, Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices, and Universal Design to ensure content accessibility for all students. Culturally responsive practices are essential to promote equity and respect.

Description

High School Chemistry teachers will utilize research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grades 9-12. Collaboration with the science department and department head is required to enhance student performance. Knowledge of Massachusetts Science Standards, SEI practices, and Universal Design is necessary. Teachers should exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science
  • Massachusetts Teaching Licensure
  • SEI Endorsement

Preferred Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Education and/or Science
  • 3+ years of high school teaching experience
  • Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
  • Experience in urban public schools
  • Foreign Language Proficiency

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Planning and facilitating Chemistry lessons aligned with State Standards
  • Using available technology and curricula to create engaging lessons linked with 21st Century skills
  • Managing classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies
  • Utilizing inclusive practices and SEI strategies for students on IEPs and English Learners
  • Incorporating language activities into Chemistry instruction (Speaking, Reading, Writing)
  • Using data to inform instructional decisions for student needs
  • Planning and facilitating Chemistry lab activities with proper safety protocols
  • Proctoring assessments including MCAS and ACCESS
  • Communicating regularly with families using culturally responsive strategies
  • Managing supplies for Chemistry classrooms
  • Participating in professional development to address urban education challenges
  • Collaborating with counselors and special education staff to support students
  • Contributing to school-wide initiatives as assigned

In accordance with the Everett Public Schools Teachers Association Contract
