Job summary

Sumter School District is seeking an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Lakewood High School to oversee coaching staff, promote a positive athletic environment, and ensure student safety and compliance with governing regulations.

The ideal candidate has at least five years of coaching experience and holds or can obtain the South Carolina educator certification. Salary and duties are determined by credentials and board-approved pay schedule.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of coaching experience.
• Must possess or demonstrate the qualifications to obtain South Carolina educator certification.
• Such alternatives to these qualifications as the Board may find acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and assists principal in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
• Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
• Responsible for the health and safety of student athletes. Ensures that proper safety and first aid procedures are followed at all times.
• Promotes and maintains positive relationships with parents and student athletes.
• Ensures that the sports program complies with the rules and regulations of the school and District, the South Carolina High School League, affiliated Conference and Region.
• Complies with all other legal requirements of school athletic programs.
• Communicates to members of his/her team all policies, rules, procedures, and requirements as they pertain to the team.
• Ensures appropriate behavior of assigned coaching staff, players, and other team personnel at all times.
• Ensures punctual attendance at scheduled coaches' meetings and rules clinics. Promotes the sports program by sponsoring fundraisers, sponsoring youth camps, attending team camps, etc.
