Job summary

Pocahontas County Schools is seeking a dedicated athletic coach to assist the Head Coach in leading the program, ensuring student-athlete development across educational, physical, social and emotional dimensions while maintaining WVSSAC compliance and school expectations.

You will promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic achievement, supervise staff, and help organize safe practices and competitions. Medical and safety protocols must be followed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Valid WVDE Coaching Authorization, or eligibility to obtain authorization.
• Fingerprint-based criminal background check required.
• Completion of WVSSAC/NFHS coaching education courses (Concussion, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Heat Illness Prevention).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
• Ability to maintain annual authorization and required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Support and carry out the Head Coach's vision, goals, and procedures.
• Promote sportsmanship, accountability, integrity, teamwork, and academics.
• Operate the athletic program in cooperation with administration.
• Supervise student managers and assistants as assigned.
• Assist in implementing program expectations, team rules, and disciplinary procedures.
• Maintain participation records and monitor student-athlete eligibility.

Education

High school diploma or GED (bachelor's degree preferred)

Coaching authorization / eligibility

Background check clear

Coaching education (Concussion, SCA, Heat illness)

CPR/AED and First Aid certification

Maintain WVDE/WVSSAC certifications

Ability to work with diverse student-athletes
