  • Meet re-certification standards set by the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
  • Provide classroom coverage during campus emergencies.

  • Job Summary: The position of Athletic Trainer is to practice the prevention, care and rehabilitation of injuries incurred through athletic participation with the use of physical modalities. Additionally, the position will be responsible for teaching first aid and CPR procedures to coaching staff.
  • Essential Functions: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks, duties, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents in this class.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: generally include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
    • Administer a program to provide for emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured high school athletes in compliance with National AthleticTrainers' Association guidelines:
      • Prevention of athletic injuries and/or illnesses
      • Evaluation and recognition of athletic injuries or illnesses
      • First aid and emergency care and weekday practices
    • In conjunction with the coach(es), the certified athletic trainer will follow the developed guidelines and emergency care procedure procedures:
      • Assist the head coach in developing an emergency medical plan for each sport
      • Counsel athletes and their parents in seeking proper medical assistance for follow-up care and/or surgery
      • Work under the direction of the team physician or other cooperating physician with respect to athletes' treatment goals
      • Advise the coach when an athlete may return and to what extent participation in practice or games following injury or illness
      • Maintain records on athletic injuries, physician referrals, and treatments administered
    • Meet re-certification standards as established by the National Athletic Trainers' Association
    • Provides classroom coverage in case of campus declared emergency
    • Performs other duties as assigned or required
  • Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures
  • Skill in CPR and First Aide techniques
  • Skill leadership and decision making
  • Skill in communicating in oral and written form
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor degree (BA) from four-year college or university; or one two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid teaching certificate or substitute teaching certificate. Valid Athletic Trainer Certificate as issued by the Board of Certification and licensed by the Arizona Board of Athletic Training. Ability to obtain malpractice insurance.

  • Must hold or obtain an IVP Fingerprint clearance card
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona driver's license
  • May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds
  • May be required to lift students weighing up to 60 pounds
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours
  • May be required to travel to perform work functions
