POSITION TITLE: High School Athletic Trainer (Edustaff / Third Party Employee)

DEPARTMENT: Romulus High School

REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics

PAY SCHEDULE: $20.00/hr.

EFFECTIVE: Immediate

Position Summary

The High School Athletic Trainer is responsible for supporting the health, safety, and medical readiness of student‑athletes in accordance with MHSAA guidelines and district policies. The position provides athletic training coverage for assigned athletic practices and competitions, oversees athlete medical clearance requirements, and maintains organization of the athletic training room and medical documentation.

The Athletic Trainer works collaboratively with coaches, administrators, parents, physicians, and student‑athletes to promote safe participation in interscholastic athletics.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training.
  • Current Michigan Athletic Trainer License required.
  • Current CPR/AED certification required.
  • Emergency Response Certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide athletic training services during assigned athletic practices, contests, and events.
  • Evaluate and respond to athletic injuries and medical emergencies.
  • Administer first aid, injury care, and emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Coordinate referrals to physicians or healthcare providers when appropriate.
  • Communicate injury status and participation limitations to coaches and athletic administration.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the athletic training room during assigned coverage periods.
  • Monitor athletic training supplies and notify administration regarding inventory or equipment needs.
  • Maintain injury and treatment documentation as required.
  • Oversee collection and verification of required MHSAA physical examination forms.
  • Ensure all student‑athletes are medically cleared prior to participation.
  • Monitor athlete participation status related to injuries, physician restrictions, and return‑to‑play protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with district policies and applicable privacy regulations.
  • Serve as a resource to coaches regarding injury prevention and athlete safety.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding injuries and participation status when appropriate.
  • Work cooperatively with school nurses, physicians, emergency personnel, and athletic administration.
  • Follow all MHSAA regulations, district policies, and applicable state athletic training standards.

Work Schedule
  • Position is limited to coverage of assigned athletic practices, competitions, and related events.
  • Evening and weekend availability required based on athletics schedules.
