High School Assistant Boys Basketball Coach
Mancos School District, nestled in southwest Colorado's Four Corners region between Durango and Cortez, is a small, diverse rural district serving approximately 500 PK-12 students. Position Type: After school/Evening
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement effective practice sessions, mentor and support student-athletes, and assist with game-day preparation and management.
- Foster a positive, competitive, and inclusive team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, academic success, and personal growth.
- Maintain high expectations for attendance, academic grades, sportsmanship, and citizenship.
- Follow and enforce all regulations, policies, and administrative directives set by the Mancos School District.
- Complete seasonal and daily practice schedules; manage game-day preparations and equipment; provide in-game coaching and tactical feedback.
- Attend all practices and games unless ill or with advanced notice to the Athletic Director.
- Work with the district trainer to ensure well-being and safety of each athlete; monitor equipment safety.
- Manage athletic facilities, ensuring cleanliness of locker rooms, gym, and fields after each practice and game.
- Attend coaching clinics, courses, and continue independent study to grow as a coach.
- Build good public relations with students, parents, staff, and community; participate in fundraising as approved by the Athletic Director.
- Travel with the team on bus to out-of-town games, which may include weekends and nights.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous coaching experience in the specific sport or related field preferred.
- CHSSA certification and passage of CHSSA rules exam with 100%.
- Valid driver’s license.
- CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
- Employment contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprinting.

- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information in compliance with FERPA.
- Operating knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email/calendar systems.
