Job summary

Valley Unified Education Service Center in Maine seeks a certified Grades 9-12 teacher for the Valley Unified Alternative School Program, TOPS Academy, to deliver blended, student-centered instruction in a non-traditional setting.

The ideal candidate will support students who struggle academically and socially, using project-based learning, trauma-informed practices, and flexible pacing to help learners reach personalized goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Math, Science, Social Studies or Education (Master's desirable).
• Valid teaching license / certification or eligibility for conditional certification.
• Experience with at-potential youth in alternative settings preferred.
• Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage engaging, standards-based lessons in core subject areas.
• Frame and design individualized learning activities aligned with state standards.
• Provide blended learning and student-centered instruction using Edmentum and other platforms.
• Design and implement Project-Based Learning activities.
• Support students' academic, social, and emotional needs in the classroom.
• Collaborate with families, counselors and staff to ensure student success.
• Maintain records of performance, progress, and attendance.
• Foster a respectful, resilient classroom environment.
