Additional Information About the Role

Our unit is vital to the flow of patients needing to be admitted from ED, CCU, admitting, procedure areas, and other hospital units, as well as from outside hospitals. The majority of our patient population includes those diagnosed with myocardial infarction requiring cardiac catheterization, congestive heart failure, heart arrhythmias, and pulmonary hypertension.

Overview

Nursing Divisions 9100/9200 are 25-bed high-risk cardiology units offering many learning opportunities. Patients often require advanced medication infusions and post-cardiac procedure care. Our team includes registered nurses, patient/student nurse technicians, and house staff of residents, interns, and other medical professionals.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities
  • Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and families on managing their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individualized care plans with defined goals, collaborating with the interprofessional team and the patient, family, or caregiver, ensuring communication across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Considers patient preferences, values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is essential.
