Job summary

New York City Transit is seeking a High Pressure Plant Tender to operate and tend high pressure boilers and related equipment in a demanding environment. The role involves assisting in the maintenance of HVAC, refrigeration and auxiliary systems across various facilities.

The position requires completion of a civil service exam process and may involve night/weekend shifts. Compensation starts at $40.10 per hour with benefits including holidays, vacation, medical and pension plans.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time satisfactory experience operating and maintaining high pressure boilers or equivalent marine experience.
• Not less than one year of experience plus training from trade/technical school or college to make up the remaining experience; six months credit for each year of approved education.

Responsibilities

• Tend oil, gas or coal fired high pressure boilers and related equipment under supervision.
• Inspect, maintain and repair heating, ventilation, refrigeration, AC and related systems.
• Operate and monitor associated auxiliary equipment and controls.
• May require lifting up to 60 pounds and working in boiler room environments.
