Job summary

ESM Prep is seeking energetic Academic Mentors to support students on the San Francisco Peninsula, primarily in Atherton and Hillsborough. Mentors will help with AP Physics 1-C, AP Biology, and AP Chemistry while guiding students through college preparation and overall academic growth.

This role offers a highly flexible schedule, remote components, and in-person sessions that may require commuting. A Bachelor's degree and tutoring/teaching experience in high-level science are required.

Qualifications

• Experience tutoring high-level science courses through AP Chemistry/ AP Biology/ AP Physics C (or college-level equivalent).
• Ability to assist students in AP Calculus is a plus.
• Candidates should live on or near the San Francisco Peninsula and commute to Atherton/Hillsborough for in-person sessions.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students one-on-one to prepare for AP exams and college planning.
• Mentor students through their high school academic journey with a holistic approach.

Job Description

ESM Prep is seeking energetic, engaging, and kind tutors in the San Fransicso Bay Area to support their students holistically as mentors. The majority of our students are on the Peninsula. The tutor in this position will assist students one-on-one in preparing for college by readying them for the AP exams and mentoring themthrough their overall high school academic journey.

We call our tutors Academic Mentors because we prioritize the holistic development of each of our students. All applicants should be passionate about working with youth and should have previous experience tutoring, teaching, and/or coaching.

Job Requirements

• Prior experience tutoring or teaching high-level science courses through AP Chemistry/AP Biology and AP Physics C (or college-level equivalent) is required
• The ability to additionally assist students in AP Calculus is preferred.
• Candidates must be living on or near the San Francisco Peninsula and able to consistently commute to one-hour in-person sessions in the Atherton/Hillsborough areas, even though many students will be remote.
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Available for part-time, consistent placement throughout the full school year or longer.
• Tutoring hours primarily occur during weekday evenings (after 3:00 PM) and/or on weekends. Typical weekly availability is Sunday–Thursday.
• Additional expertise in high school subjects such as History, English, Spanish, Computer Science, or Economics is a plus.
• Prior experience teaching the ACT/SAT, or a willingness to complete our advanced paid test prep training, is a major asset that will immediately open up expanded student roster opportunities.
• Wage: $60-$70/hr (remote academic tutoring in high school subjectsstarts at $60/hr, while remote test prep tutoring starts at$70/hr)
• A bonus of +$10 per hour is applied for any in-person work
• IRS rate non-taxed travel reimbursement
• Additional compensation for training and administrative functions
