Job Summary:

The Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides clients with various personal care and homemaker/companion services according to an established plan of care, enabling them to remain in their residence.

Essential Functions:

• Personal Care: Performs and/or assists with bathing, dressing, grooming, nail/skin care, back care, foot care, shampoo, oral hygiene, ambulation, transfers, range of motion exercises, safe use of equipment and assistive devices (wheelchair, walker, crutches, cane), changing position, toileting, commode, incontinent care, meal planning, preparation, and feeding assistance.
• Companion/Sitter/Household Management: Provides companionship and respite for family; performs homemaking activities such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping or mopping floors, doing dishes, changing bed linens, laundry, and bathroom cleaning.
• Medication reminders.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
• Successful completion of a state-approved Personal Care Aide course.
• At least six months of experience as a Personal Care Aide (in homes or facilities).
• Listed in good standing on the New York State Nurse Aide Registry.
• Achieved at least 80% on the Home Health Aide competency exam.
• Passed the DEARS Ethics test.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English as needed for the job.
• Possess a valid driver's license, insured vehicle, or access to reliable transportation.
