HGV Driver - Class 1 (C&E) - Weston Super Mare

Job Purpose:

This position requires overnight stays, so flexibility and a commitment to travel are essential. You will be responsible for transporting, delivering, and positioning heavy machinery and equipment to various sites, ensuring safety and compliance at all times.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a Class 1 HGV to transport heavy plant machinery, construction equipment, and other large loads to various destinations.
  • Ensure all deliveries are made on time and within safety regulations.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks and ensure the vehicle is in good working condition, reporting any defects to the Transport Manager immediately to ensure constant compliance with regulations and company standards
  • Safe loading, securing and transport of plant equipment and attachments
  • Carry out delivery and collection checks on each load ensuring all aspects of the load are captured using tablet-based reporting system
  • Follow all road safety regulations, weight restrictions, and legal requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety procedures during transport and unloading.
  • Maintain accurate delivery records, including timesheets, logs, and delivery confirmations.
  • Ensure the vehicle and load are adequately secured for safe transit.
  • Stay away overnight as required for long-distance hauls, adhering to company policies regarding accommodation and expenses.
  • Communicate effectively with the transport manager, clients, and site personnel regarding any issues with routes or deliveries.
  • Conduct any other duties as requested by the operations team

Skills and attributes:

  • Understanding of driver hours and tachograph regulations
  • Previous experience in transporting heavy plant equipment is highly desirable.
  • Good knowledge/understanding of loading and securing plant and construction equipment
  • A professional, reliable, and safety-conscious approach to work.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with clients and team members.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good time management
  • Good organisational skills

Essential Requirements and qualifications:

  • Right to work in the UK
  • A valid Class 1 HGV license with a clean driving record.
  • CPC qualification and Tachograph card.
