Job summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs Of The Virginia Peninsula seeks a Herren Club Coordinator for the Yorktown Unit in Yorktown, VA. This part-time role supports youth development through Education, Leadership & Service, Health & Wellness, Sports, Arts and more, with day shifts.

You will plan, supervise and evaluate a range of programs, ensure safety, and interact with members, parents and staff to deliver high-quality youth programs while upholding organizational standards.

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years in a Boys or Girls Club or similar organization working with youth.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee administration of designated Herren Club programs and activities.
  • Establish program objectives aligned with organizational goals and mission.
  • Oversee day-to-day program activities per standards and goals.
  • Encourage member participation across areas and provide feedback to develop skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership to ensure conduct, safety, and development of members.
  • Drive club van and support other unit activities as needed.

Position: Herren Club Coordinator
Location: Yorktown Unit - Yorktown, VA 23692
Type: Part Time
Salary: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
Shift: Day

Primary Function

Responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programs in the York County location, such as Education, Leadership & Service, Health & Wellness, Sports & Recreation and The Arts. Plan, develop, oversee implementation, and supervise programs.

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities)
  1. Prepare Youth for Success
    1. Plan and oversee the administration of designated Herren Club programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes:
    2. Establish Herren Club program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
    3. Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
    4. Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
    5. Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members.
  2. Program Development and Implementation
    1. Establish and maintain Herren Club program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members. Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated, and well lit; and club equipment is maintained in good working condition.
    2. Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
  3. Additional Responsibilities
    1. May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e., Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
    2. Will be required to drive Club van.
    3. May consult with parents concerning member and branch issues.
    4. Assume other duties as assigned.
Relationships

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain, or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.

External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

Skills and Knowledge Required
  • Four-year degree in related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of two years work experience in a Boys or Girls Club or similar organization planning, and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Driver’s License.
