Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Herdsperson to assist Herd Technicians with routine animal care and farm tasks. You will support welfare, growth, and breeding of animals across the designated site, performing sanitation, animal handling, and record-keeping as part of a dependable full-time role.

This position requires physical labor, adherence to safety and animal welfare policies, and flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays when needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Commitment to teamwork and reliability.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in a farm setting.
• Willingness to follow established SOPs and safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Feed, water, vaccinate, and perform general animal husbandry tasks.
• Assist in moving animals and maintaining animal flows.
• Sanitize and wash farm areas with high-pressure equipment.
• Process piglets (injections, castration, docking tails, ear notching).
• Maintain production records and document department activities.
• Treat animals with pharmaceuticals as required and follow SOPs.
