Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Finishing Swine Farmer (Herdsperson) to assist Herd Technicians in caring for livestock and performing farm tasks. The role involves animal welfare, sanitation, and daily farm operations to support productive livestock management.

The position requires hard physical labor, ability to follow defined procedures, and willingness to work varied shifts including early mornings and weekends.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to perform hard physical labor.
• Strong commitment to teamwork.
• Willingness to shower daily in and out of facility.
• Ability to work ~48 hours per week, including weekends/evenings/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Feeds, waters, vaccinates, and performs animal husbandry tasks.
• Assists in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flow.
• Sanitizes and washes areas using high pressure equipment.
• Processes piglets: injections, castration, docking tails, ear notching.
• Maintains production records and follows SOPs and training guides.
• Assists with facility and equipment maintenance.
