Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a herdsperson for Farm 74411 (Dogwood) in Wagram, NC. This is a full-time, onsite position with an hourly rate of $16.75. You will assist herd technicians in routine animal care, sanitation, and movement, supporting animal welfare and farm operations.

Responsibilities include feeding, vaccinating, handling piglets, record-keeping, and following SOPs. Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required, and on-call duties could arise in emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous livestock handling helpful.
• Ability to do hard physical labor.
• Weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed.
• Must be on call for emergencies including power outages or staffing shortages.

Responsibilities

• Feeds, waters, vaccinates, and perform general animal husbandry tasks.
• Assist in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flows.
• Sanitize and wash multiple areas on the farm.
• Handle piglets including injections, castration, tail docking, and ear notching.
• Maintain production records and follow SOPs and training guides.
• Assist with facility/equipment maintenance and barn cleanliness.
• Comply with animal welfare policies and safety procedures.
• Be available for variable schedules including on-call situations.
