Job summary

The Missouri Botanical Garden's Herbarium seeks a detail-focused Digitization Technician to join a multi-year program to image, curate, and transcribe specimen data. You will pull, barcode, image, and file specimens, transcribe label data, and ensure QA while collaborating on taxonomy and collection management.

Essentials include a Bachelor’s in botany or related field, 1–3 years’ data-entry experience, proficiency with Tropicos and imaging software, and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in botany or a related field is required.
• 1-3 years of related data entry or herbarium experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of digital photography, metadata capture, and archival storage.
• Excellent typing and data-entry skills; ability to read cursive writing.
• Ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Pull, barcode, image, and refile specimens to meet grant deliverables with minimal disruption.
• Transcribe label data from specimen images using Tropicos.
• Perform quality checks to ensure high data and image quality.
• Collaborate with Digitization Supervisors to optimize workflows and data quality.
• Review AI-generated transcriptions for accuracy before inclusion in Tropicos.
• Attend curatorial mentorship workshops to expand taxonomy and curation skills.
• Update scientific names and identify specimens in target families over time.
• Follow safety standards and report any accidents or hazards.
• Work cooperatively with team members, volunteers, and researchers.
