Overview

In accordance with education-based athletics, Assistant Coaches will work with Head Coaches to develop an effective coaching program plan, including skill development, practice planning, supervision of all levels of the sport, focusing on individual and team growth while instilling the highest ideals of character. Assistant Coaches will communicate effectively with Head Coaches, student-athletes, parents, and administration.

Qualifications

• Teachers or certificated professional educators employed by the local Board of Education.
• Persons certifiable as professional educators by the State Department of Education according to 13A.12.01.
• Credentialed Coaches meeting the following:
• Eligible to hold a Maryland certificate under COMAR 13A.12.01.
• Possess MPSSAA/MSDE Coaching Certification.
• Completed two years of successful coaching as an emergency coach, with at least one year at the current school.

Essential Job Functions

• Adhere to policies in the Charles County Public Schools Extra-Curricular Handbook.
• Assist with pre-season meetings and report to practice 30 minutes early on non-school days.
• Secure the facility during and after practices and games.
• Teach fundamentals, promote sportsmanship, and enforce all rules.
• Manage equipment, inventory, and report damages or losses.
• Supervise practices and games, ensuring conduct and well-being of players.
• Attend meetings, assist with team records, and help with budget planning.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

Must have ambulatory skills, ability to stand, walk, lift 10-50 pounds, and perform related physical tasks. Good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity are required.
