Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Unit Secretary for the Hemodialysis outpatient unit. Per diem, dayshift from 8 am to 4 pm, including Saturdays, under the Nurse Manager's supervision, providing clerical support across transcription, medical records, and communications.

The role requires HS diploma, strong organization, and excellent interpersonal skills. Responsibilities cover patient admissions, charting, and coordination with multiple departments to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read and write at a level normally acquired through completion of high school.
• Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with hospital personnel, medical staff, and patients or family.
• Basic analytical skills to gather and interpret routine data, maintain records, and organize workload.
• Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail to complete required services.

Responsibilities

• Order Transcription/Computer Entry: accurate transcription of physician orders and timely data entry.
• Medical Record Maintenance: manage confidentiality and proper filing, preparation for discharge.
• Telephone and Electronic Communication: answer calls courteously and use paging/CRMs as needed.
• Customer/Interpersonal Relations: support patient and staff communication, assist transfers and admissions.
• Continuing Education/Meeting Attendance: participate in educational programs and meetings.
