Hemodialysis Registered Nurse – East Houston Medical Center

Location: East Houston Medical Center – East Houston /Channelview–Baytown Corridor, TX
Schedule: Full-time, bedside hemodialysis with rotating call coverage

East Houston Medical Center is a growing, community-focusedacute care hospital serving the East Houston, Channelview, and Baytown corridorwith a commitment to safe, compassionate, andevidence-basedcare.We are seeking an elite Hemodialysis Registered Nurse to join our expandingnephrology service line and provide exceptional care to patients with acute andchronic kidney disease in our inpatient hemodialysis program.

Position overview

The Hemodialysis RN is a key clinical expert responsible formanaging the full dialysis treatment process from preparation and initiationthrough monitoring, discontinuation, and post-treatment evaluation. This nursecollaborates closely with nephrologists, hospitalists, and theinterdisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality dialysis care that alignswith state and federal standards for end stage renal disease (ESRD) services.

Key responsibilities

  • Performcomprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-dialysis assessments, includingreview of history, labs, fluid status, vital signs, and vascular access.
  • Safelyinitiate, monitor, and terminate hemodialysis treatments according toprescribed orders, established protocols, and equipment safety standards.
  • Operate,troubleshoot, and oversee dialysis machines, water systems, and relatedequipment; verify alarm checks and safety parameters prior to treatment.
  • Administerordered medications and blood products during treatment, monitoring forand responding promptly to adverse reactions or clinical changes.
  • Develop,implement, and update individualized nursing care plans that reflectpatient goals, nephrology orders, and evolving clinical status.
  • Provideexpert patient and family education on kidney disease, dialysistreatments, medications, diet, fluid management, and home self-carestrategies.
  • Collaboratewith nephrologists, hospitalists, case management, social work, nutrition,and transplant centers to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Maintainmeticulous documentation of assessments, treatments, machine parameters,interventions, and patient response in the electronic health record.
  • Upholdinfection prevention and safety standards, including vascular access care,environmental cleanliness, and equipment disinfection in accordance withregulatory requirements.

Call expectations

  • Participatein a shared hemodialysis on-call rotation to support emergency andafter-hours inpatient dialysis needs.
  • Remainreachable and able to arrive on-site within an agreed-upon timeframe whencalled for urgent hemodialysis treatments.
  • Collaboratewith the House Supervisor and nephrology team to prioritize emergent andnon-emergent dialysis cases during call.
  • Maintainreadiness to manage clinically complex, time-sensitive dialysis situationsin a calm andorganizedmanner.

Qualifications

  • Current,unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
  • Minimumof 12 months of recent clinical RN experience in acute care or specialtysetting.
  • Atleast 6 months of recent hemodialysis experience in an acute or chronicdialysis environment, or nationally recognized nephrology/hemodialysiscertification in lieu of experience as permitted by regulation.
  • CurrentBLS certification required; ACLS strongly preferred.
  • Demonstratedproficiency with dialysis equipment, venous access management, andemergency response within the dialysis setting.
  • Exceptionalcommunication, critical thinking, and clinical judgment skills, with acalm, patient-centered approach in high-acuity situations.
