Job summary

East Jefferson General Hospital, part of LCMC Health, seeks a Hematology & Oncology Physician with expertise in prostate cancer to join a growing cancer services team in Metairie, LA.

The ideal candidate will diagnose, treat, and manage patients across the cancer care continuum while collaborating with urology, radiation oncology, surgery, pathology, radiology, and supportive care teams.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Completed Internal Medicine Residency.
  • Completed Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive hematology and oncology care with a focus on prostate cancer and genitourinary malignancies.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and develop individualized treatment plans using evidence-based practices.
  • Manage patients through diagnosis, active treatment, survivorship, and supportive care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary cancer teams to optimize outcomes and planning.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient encounters and decisions.
  • Respond to patient calls, messages, and concerns promptly.

The ideal candidate will play a key role in the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of patients with prostate cancer while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing oncology care across the region.

Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide comprehensive hematology and oncology care with a focus on prostate cancer and genitourinary malignancies.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Manage patients throughout the continuum of care, including diagnosis, active treatment, survivorship, and supportive care.
  • Perform routine examinations, prescribe treatments, and monitor therapeutic outcomes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary cancer teams to optimize patient outcomes and treatment planning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters and clinical decisions.
  • Respond to patient calls, messages, and care concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Patient Access & Care Coordination

  • Participate in a shared physician call schedule.
  • Support timely patient access and continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with referring providers and specialists to ensure seamless care transitions.

Quality & Safety

  • Promote patient safety and adherence to infection prevention standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and patient experience initiatives.
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to emergent clinical situations.

Leadership & Program Development

  • Support service-line growth and strategic oncology initiatives.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and physician leadership activities.
  • Contribute to efforts that expand access to advanced prostate cancer care throughout the region.

Qualifications

Education

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.

Training

  • Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program.
  • Completion of an accredited Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Eligible for or currently holding unrestricted Louisiana medical licensure.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hematology and Medical Oncology.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Eligible for medical staff membership and clinical privileges at East Jefferson General Hospital.
