Hematology and Oncology Physician Job with Veterans Health Administration in Albuquerque, NM

The New Mexico VA Health Care System and the University of New Mexico (UNM) Cancer Center are seeking applications for a staff physician position within an expanding Hematology/Oncology Section at NMVAHCS. This program is the major academic affiliate of UNM's Division of Hematology/Oncology and the UNM Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

This role involves collaboration with UNM's Divisional and Cancer Center Leadership and includes a significant teaching component within the Division, including its fellowship program. Applicants should have an MD, current medical license, and be board-certified or eligible in Hematology and/or Oncology. A potential academic appointment at UNM at the level of associate or full professor is preferred, based on academic and clinical experience. Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine at UNM.

Major responsibilities include:
  1. Providing high-quality patient care within a multidisciplinary team
  2. Managing diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients with blood disorders or malignancies
  3. Participating in educational programs for Hematology/Oncology and Internal Medicine
  4. Engaging in teaching at didactic and bedside levels
  5. Supervising medical students, residents, and fellows
  6. Participating in clinical trials and scholarly activities
  7. Adhering to quality standards and measures
  8. Fostering academic and research collaborations within the Division
Preferred qualifications:
  • Residency in Internal Medicine
  • Hematology/Oncology Fellowship from an ACGME-accredited program (candidates in final fellowship year eligible)
  • ABIM Board eligibility or certification in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology
  • Interest and experience in teaching, with recognition or awards
  • Research interests in Hematology or Oncology, including clinical, translational, or basic science

Additional details:
