Job summary

Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC seeks helpers to support underground distribution construction and maintenance in the Dallas area. The role involves working near energized lines with PPE, splicing PILC/XLPE cables, and performing hardware measurements for copper bus and supports.

A valid CDL-A with endorsement is required, with 24/7 call duty and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Progression to Cable Splicer Senior is possible, based on training and demonstrated skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• CDL Class A with endorsement required.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather and be on call 24/7.
• Experience with distribution cable splicing preferred.
• Must respond to emergency calls within 1 hour.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction and maintenance of underground distribution lines safely.
• Work near energized conductors with proper PPE at all times.
• Splice and terminate PILC and XLPE cables.
• Take measurements to fabricate copper bus and supports.
• Work energized up to 600V and assist on switching when needed.
• Promote to Cable Splicer Senior after training progress.

Helper 1, Helper 2, and Cable Splicer 1 Summary

Performs construction and maintenance of underground distribution lines and equipment in a safe manner. Work is performed under the direction of others and with the approval of the supervisor in charge. Must take directions from other employees. Work is done near or on conductors and equipment energized to distribution voltages, using proper protective equipment at all times. Employee performing work will be required to work in or on; manholes, vaults, ladders and aerial devices, using approved techniques and proper protective equipment. May perform switching on both low and high voltage equipment and check transformer load or voltage. Work will be performed in a safe and timely manner at all times in accordance with all company, regulatory, and safety requirements. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

• Preferred candidates shall have a working knowledge of Network Protectors, Arc Whippers, Automatic Throw Over Devices (ATO's) and experience with pulling and reeling equipment
• Trained in manhole, bucket truck, and vault rescue
• Must be able to splice and terminate Pulling Conductor Paper Insulated Led Cables (PILC), Cross-Linked Polyethylene Cables (XLPE), and other various rubber/plastic cables
• Must be able to take measurements as to fabricate copper bus and steel supports
• Cable Splicer 1 must be able to work energized voltages up to 600V

Education and Experience Requirements

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent is required
• Must have A Class A Driver's License with CDL endorsement
• Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions during both normal and extended working hours
• Must be available for a regular call out schedule and be available in other emergency situations or when needed, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
• Must be able to respond to emergency call outs with in 1 hour from being called
• Must be physically able to lift 75 pounds
• Attending the Distribution Cable Splicing Training is required for progression in the position. Training will be provided to the successful candidate
• A commitment to learn and abide by the Safety handbook is required
