Job summary

The Maryland State Police seeks a Pilot I-A (Second-in-Command) in the MSP Aviation Command to act as SIC on helicopters for aero-medical, search and rescue, and law enforcement missions. You will work under the Director of Flight Operations and MSPAC Commander, ensuring readiness and compliance with FAA regulations.

You must have 1200 flight hours, FAA certifications, and medical ratings, with duties including inspections, paperwork, and specialized flight operations.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
• Twelve hundred (1200) helicopter or fixed wing flight hours as a FAA certificated pilot.
• Substitution of verified military piloting service or ICAO flight hours allowed; helicopter and fixed wing hours not combined.

Responsibilities

• Flies MSPAC aircraft as SIC for aero-medical missions, search and rescue, homeland security, disaster assessments and other related missions.
• Conducts pre-flight and post-flight inspections according to MSPAC and FAA regulations.
• Performs maintenance tasks including cleaning, refueling, fluids, and replacing light bulbs.
• Performs routine maintenance of hangar and office facilities.
• Operates specialized flight-related equipment such as tow motors.
• Recommends go/no-go flight risk management decisions based on weather, maintenance and safety considerations.
• Completes paperwork for MSPAC and Maryland State Police flight operations and aircraft logs.
• Completes required training courses and exercises in compliance with FAA and MSPAC regulations.
• Performs other related duties.
