Job Summary

Location: Geisinger Life Flight Hangar 3, Avoca, PA – USA | Shift: Rotation (7 days on / 7 days off) | Scheduled Hours: 40 per week | Worker Type: Regular | Exemption Status: Yes | Salary: Competitive with a $25,000 bonus for pilots, 1.5× base salary and additional incentives for extra shifts. Relocation assistance is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Job Duties
  • Safely conduct patient medical transport assignments for Geisinger Life Flight.
  • Process flight assignments received from Life Flight Communications Center and decide acceptance based on weather and safety conditions.
  • Plan flight assignments and obtain briefing information (purpose, weather, operational procedures, special instructions). Conduct shift briefing with medical, communications, and ground personnel.
  • Prepare the aircraft pre‑flight: inspect, load, equip, fuel, and staff the helicopter per the General Operating Manual.
  • Assist in loading and distributing cargo and passengers, ensuring weight and balance limits are met.
  • Secure cargo and ensure emergency equipment are aboard.
  • File, activate, and close flight plans; maintain accurate flight logs, records, and maintenance forms.
  • Check and log aircraft discrepancy logs before flight; report new discrepancies to maintenance.
  • Notify Life Flight Communications Center of the aircraft service status.
  • Participate in post‑flight debriefings and keep navigation charts current.
  • Maintain proficiency as Pilot‑in‑Command and in SPIFR operations.

Position Details
  • Responsible for safe and efficient flight assignments transporting patients.
  • May require long periods of sitting in helicopter or office setting.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs; limited to a max of 250 lbs for flight gear.
  • Exposure to aircraft vibration, noise, jet fumes, temperature extremes; potential mechanical and electrical hazards.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures.
Education & Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Licensed FAA Commercial Helicopter Pilot with Instrument Rating (minimum 1500 hrs total time, 1000 hrs helicopter time, 75 hrs PIC instrument time, at least 50 hrs actual flight instrument).
  • ATP rating and 500 hrs cross‑country time.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical: FAA Class II Flight Physical.
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience (preferred).
