The Department of Education is seeking a Heavy Truck Driver in Sacramento, CA, responsible for delivering essential food supplies to schools and child care facilities. This position is headquartered in Sacramento, CA. The Nutrition Services Division’s mission is to assist agencies with meeting the nutritional needs of school children in preschool through grade twelve and infants and children in childcare environments. Under the supervision of the Materials and Stores Supervisor at the State Distribution Center in Sacramento, the Heavy Truck Driver (HTD) is responsible for the operation of a two or three-axle truck tractor and pulling a 28- to 48-foot dry or refrigerated trailer. The HTD delivers U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foods and Department of Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetables (DoD Fresh) to recipient agencies located in counties throughout Northern and Central California. The HTD loads the USDA Foods and DoD Fresh ensuring that the load is balanced in the trailer, and verifies the products and destination against the bill of lading prior to departure. The HTD is also responsible for contacting each location at minimum 48 hours prior to expected delivery, performing minor vehicle repairs and regular service maintenance to ensure the equipment is road worthy, keeping truck records, and preparing reports. Occasional overnight travel and regular overtime are required. The HTD must meet Department of Motor Vehicle's requirements and is responsible for maintaining a class “A” commercial driver's license.
