Job summary

Barnhart Crane & Rigging is seeking a skilled Drafter to convert concepts and field measurements into comprehensive fabrication and machining drawings. You will work with cutting‑edge equipment and collaborate with engineers, fabrication teams, and contractors to support project execution.

You will obtain hands‑on knowledge of heavy lift gear, take precise measurements, and develop BOMs and detailed drawings for fabrication projects.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in engineering, drafting, or fabrication.
• Ability to take accurate measurements and create detailed drawings.
• Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar programs.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Mathematical aptitude and strong problem‑solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Obtain knowledge of Barnhart heavy lift and specialty rigging gear through on-the-job training.
• Take precise measurements of existing equipment for drawing and documentation purposes.
• Create bills of materials and individual parts for fabrication projects.
• Develop detailed fabrication and machining drawings for newly fabricated equipment.
• Interface with Engineers, Fabrication personnel, and outside contractors to support project execution.
• Create part nests for material cutting operations.
• Learn to operate plasma table and waterjet equipment and assist with cutting parts for custom fabrication projects.
• Work closely with fabrication teams and supervisors to support production goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
