Heavy Industrial Mechanical Maintenance TechnicianStep into a day at U. S. Steel’s Minntac Facility, part of Minnesota Ore Operations in Northern Minnesota—home to two active iron ore mines that power one of the world’s largest steelmakers. As a Mechanical Maintenance pro on our team, you keep production moving by installing, repairing, and optimizing the systems that make continuous operations possible.What your day could look likeStart with a safety review and gear up—hard hat, eye and hearing protection, protective clothing, and metatarsal boots.Head to your assigned area—conditions vary by location and can be hot, cold, wet, dirty, greasy, and noisy.Tackle planned and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems: hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, power transmission, conveyors, cranes, and mobile equipment.Use standard and specialized tools; operate pendant and overhead cranes and forklifts to position components.Support operations when needed and collaborate with fellow technicians—or run solo with minimal supervision.Access hard-to-reach equipment, occasionally working at heights or in confined spaces.Core responsibilitiesInstall, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of mechanical equipment and systems across a heavy industrial setting.Contribute to safe, reliable, and continuous plant operations.What you bringAt least 1 year of manufacturing/industrial experience (including relevant military experience) or equivalent education.Background in one or more of the following is valued: hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, power transmission, welding, pipe-fitting, structural repair, or diesel mechanics.High School Diploma or GED.Ability to work rotating shifts (including weekends and holidays) and overtime as needed.Consistent attendance, punctuality, and self-direction.Strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE requirements.Pay, schedule, and conditionsHourly rate: $42.56/hr.Rotating shifts plus overtime when required.Environment varies by area and may be hot/cold, wet, dirty, greasy, and noisy.Assessment and qualificationsMust pass assessment test(s).Tools and equipment you’ll handleStandard and specialized maintenance tools, pendant and overhead cranes, forklifts, and mobile equipment.Skills we valueEquipment TroubleshootingTransmission & Drivetrain SystemsPneumatics TroubleshootingHydraulic Systems & ComponentsIndustrial maintenanceMillwrightMiningLegal noticeThis is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testingJoin us at U.
