Job summary

Builders Supply, A CRH company, is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to repair mobile equipment including ready mix trucks, loaders, and trailers. The role is a 60/40 split between shop and mobile repairs at Concrete Ready Mix plants in Louisiana.

Responsibilities include diagnosing issues, welding, servicing electrical systems, maintaining inventory, and guiding drivers. A CDL and clean driving record are preferred, with a high school diploma or GED required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
• Minimum 2 years Mobile Equipment Maintenance experience; Ready Mix maintenance preferred.
• Trade School or related mechanical/technical certification.
• CDL and safe driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Observe and listen to truck operation to identify malfunctions.
• Use diagnostic software for advanced troubleshooting.
• Read manuals and use tools to repair electrical systems, power transmissions, brakes, drivelines and other automotive components.
• Replace rollers and wear items as needed.
• Perform welding, repair and fabrication.
• Assist Senior Mechanic as needed.
• Operate mobile equipment as required.
• Provide technical guidance to Ready Mix Truck Drivers and other operators.
• Maintain parts inventory and order parts/supplies.
• Demonstrate lockout/tagout safety procedures.
• May perform service calls at other plants or roadside repairs.
• Assist with training coworkers.
• General shop clean-up and safety compliance.

Position Summary

Under the immediate direction of the Senior Mechanic, the Diesel Mechanic performs repairs on mobile equipment, including ready mix trucks, front end loaders, and trailers. 60/40 work split between Shop and mobile repairs at Concrete Ready Mix plants.

Requirements

• Observes and listens to truck in operation to determine malfunctions.
• Use diagnostic software to do advanced troubleshooting
• Reads manuals, uses hand tools, power tools to perform repairs and maintenance to electrical systems, power transmissions, brakes, drivelines and other automotive systems to perform repair work

• Delivers technical advice to Ready Mix Truck Drivers and other mobile equipment operators.

• Demonstrates good knowledge of lock out/tag out procedure required during certain procedures
• May make service calls at other plants or emergency roadside repairs as needed
• Assists with training co-workers as needed
• General clean-up of work areas
• Follows safety policies and procedures as written
• Participates in the shop safety program and conduct tailgate safety meeting.
• Performs other duties as required

Preferred Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or Equivalent GED required
• Minimum 2 years Mobile Equipment Maintenance Experience, Ready Mix Maintenance experience preferred
• Trade School or related mechanical / technical certification
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) and safe driving record

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of repair and maintenance of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, transmissions, brakes, drivelines and other automotive systems to perform repair work
• Basic welding skills
• Ability to read and write in English
• 40 hours per week and overtime on an as needed basis

Physical Requirements

• Work requires the ability to lift a maximum 100 lbs
• Work requires the ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend from trunk, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
• Work requires the ability to operate hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet
• Work requires the ability to perform sustained overhead reaching
• Work requires the ability to use vibration tools
• Work requires the ability to perform work white lying on back tar for prolonged periods of time and in some cases cramped quarters
• Work requires the ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels
• Work is performed 50% outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather and 50% indoors
