Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Service, repair, adjust, and test all engines, motors, moving parts, and equipment.
- Inspect equipment or materials to identify problems or defects.
- Perform routine maintenance and determine necessary repairs.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment.
- Use hydraulic jacks or hoists to raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment.
- Recondition and replace parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and plan corrective actions.
- Install equipment to meet specifications.
- Complete all required paperwork.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance.
- Overhaul and test major components like engines and hydraulic systems.
- Install and repair special equipment.
- Perform minor welding and brazing.
- Maintain and service equipment.
- Change and repair tires.
Qualification Requirements
- Skilled mechanical work and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to interpret diagnostic test results.
- Proficiency with various test equipment and shop tools.
- Basic care and maintenance skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs., with frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and balancing.
- Work in varying weather conditions, noise levels, and dust.
- Possibility of working in construction environments and exposure to hazardous waste.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least 1 year of experience in heavy equipment mechanical maintenance.
- ASE certification preferred; willingness to obtain certification within 18 months.
- CDL preferred; valid driver’s license and clean record required.
- Knowledge of maintaining autos, trucks, and emergency vehicles.
- Understanding of gasoline and diesel engine operation and maintenance.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and adhere to safety standards.
- Availability for overtime and weekend work during peak seasons.
- Maintain punctual attendance.
