Job summary

Faris Machinery in Grand Junction, CO seeks an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician/Mechanic with 8–10 years of shop experience to diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain construction equipment. You’ll work in a dealership-style shop with OEM training and opportunities for professional growth.

You’ll diagnose diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrain components; perform PMs, inspections, and major repairs, while documenting work and collaborating with the Service Manager.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of heavy equipment technician or mechanic experience.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrain components.
• Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain construction and heavy equipment in a dealership shop environment.
• Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, and machine components.
• Perform equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and scheduled service repairs.
• Rebuild and replace engines, pumps, motors, cylinders, and other major components.
• Disassemble, repair, and reassemble equipment to manufacturer specifications.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and equipment modifications as needed.
• Accurately document inspections, labor, parts usage, and repair work performed.
• Work closely with the Service Manager and Parts Department to ensure timely and accurate repairs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Participate in OEM training and professional development opportunities.
• Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced technicians when needed.

Schedule

• Monday-Friday
• Typical hours: 7:00 AM-4:00 PM or 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
• Overtime opportunities may be available based on business needs

What You'll Do

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED
• 8-10 years of heavy equipment technician or mechanic experience
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrain components
• Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documents
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to obtain a Class B CDL Preferred
• Technical training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field
• Welding experience
• Experience working in a heavy equipment dealership environment
• Current CDL (Class B or higher)
• OEM certifications or manufacturer training

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, bending, and reaching
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds
• Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery required for the position
