Job description

We support employers in the heavy equipment and construction sectors who need experienced mechanics to keep their fleets operating safely and efficiently. This role is a combination of field service and shop work, giving technicians the opportunity to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment both at customer job sites and in the shop.

You'll perform diagnostics, field service, preventive maintenance, and repairs on major heavy equipment brands. While much of the work is performed in the field using a service truck, you'll also support the branch with in-shop diagnostics, repairs, inspections, equipment preparation, and rental readiness as needed.

This is not an entry-level role. The employer is looking for a seasoned technician with strong troubleshooting skills, the ability to work independently, and the confidence to handle complex mechanical and electrical issues while providing excellent customer service.

What You'll Do
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions using meters, diagnostic tools, and field-testing methods
  • Perform repairs on engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and machine control systems
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance and major service intervals on heavy equipment
  • Handle field service calls to return equipment to operation or assist in transporting units back to the shop
  • Perform in-shop diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and equipment preparation to support branch operations as needed
  • Repair and maintain components such as enclosures, dashboards, wiring, lighting systems, and control panels
  • Prepare equipment for rental readiness, ensuring machines meet safety and performance standards
  • Move equipment in and out of the yard/shop using forklifts or operating the units directly
  • Maintain accurate repair records, work orders, and inspection documentation
  • Keep tools, service truck, and work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety procedures
  • Communicate effectively with the branch team and customers while on job sites
What We're Looking For
  • At least 6 years of hands-on heavy equipment experience (rental industry experience is a plus but not required)
  • Strong knowledge of John Deere, Komatsu, Caterpillar, Bobcat, or similar construction equipment
  • JLG/Genie certification preferred but not required
  • Ability to troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and basic electronics
  • Comfortable working independently in the field and interacting with customers professionally
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn increasingly complex systems
  • Able to follow all applicable safety rules, laws, and procedures
  • Accurate record keeping in both written work orders and digital systems
  • High school diploma or equivalent
