Heavy Equipment Operators - CDL Class A - Kansas City, MO

Mainline Services, an established railroad construction company, is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators with a CDL Class A Driver's License to grow our expanding team. This experienced operator is responsible for hauling equipment, operating, and maintaining various types of heavy equipment.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in operating heavy equipment including backhoe, bulldozer, excavator, front-end loader, skid steer, grapple trucks, and a selection of specialty railroad equipment/attachments.
  • Must possess a valid CDL Class A Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Perform light duty mechanical repairs (hoses, fittings, wiring, fuses, etc.).
  • Capable of understanding and following directions.
  • Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions performing construction-related tasks.
  • Display strong adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Requires lifting approximately 75-100 lbs. to perform job duties.
  • Must pass qualification tests as required (E-Rail Safe, Background, Drug Test, and other training/safety programs).
  • 24/7 availability to respond to emergency calls for service including weekends and holidays.
Job Duties:
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe, effective, professional, and efficient manner to protect employees and assets.
  • Upon arrival at the job site, participate in discussions related to the day's work plan to ensure safety and efficiency in carrying out daily work assignments.
  • Actively participate in daily safety briefings.
  • Operate equipment in conformance with standard operational policies and procedures while following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist with rigging and connection of chains, cables, and winches during derailments.
  • Perform equipment operations with awareness of surroundings and co-workers to avoid dangerous situations.
  • Continuously monitor equipment and vehicles to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
  • Perform and document minor service on equipment and vehicles, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Fleet Manager for repair.
  • Sort scrap materials placing them in designated locations.
  • Be flexible and ready to perform tasks for other departments or divisions as may be required to meet business needs and customer expectations.
  • Work extended hours.
  • Must be able to travel in the region frequently, with some out-of-town jobs that require multiple nights on the road.
Additional Job Duties if Applicant has a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License:
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment in accordance with company policy and D.O.T. regulations.
  • Drive tractor-trailer to/from job sites, inspect loads, and machinery being transported.
  • Verify transportation permits (if CDL certificated) to ensure that specifications for overweight and oversize loads/equipment are accurate.
  • Responsible for loading, unloading, and safe transportation of equipment and/or materials to/from job sites, operation of equipment at job sites (if qualified), and providing assistance in the rerailing divisions and/or the track maintenance/repair/new builds divisions.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to work at heights, climb stairs, and work in hot or cold environments.
  • Work outdoors in a noisy, safety-sensitive environment.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
