Mainline Services, an established railroad construction company, is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators with a CDL Class A Driver's License to grow our expanding team. This experienced operator is responsible for hauling equipment, operating, and maintaining various types of heavy equipment.
Qualifications:
- Experience in operating heavy equipment including backhoe, bulldozer, excavator, front-end loader, skid steer, grapple trucks, and specialty railroad equipment/attachments.
- Must possess a valid CDL Class A Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Perform light duty mechanical repairs (hoses, fittings, wiring, fuses, etc.).
- Capable of understanding and following directions.
- Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions performing construction-related tasks.
- Display strong adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- Able to read, write, and speak English.
- Requires lifting approximately 75-100 lbs. to perform job duties.
- Must pass qualification tests as required (E-Rail Safe, Background, Drug Test, and other training/safety programs).
- 24/7 availability to respond to emergency calls for service including weekends and holidays.
Job Duties:
- Ensures that all activities are carried out in a safe, effective, professional, and efficient manner to protect employees and assets.
- Upon arrival at job site, participates in discussions related to the day's work plan to ensure safety and efficiency in carrying out daily work assignments.
- Actively participates in daily safety briefing.
- Operates equipment in conformance with standard operational policies/procedures while following all safety rules/regulations.
- Assists with rigging and connection of chains, cables, and winches during derailments.
- Performs equipment operations with awareness to surroundings and co-workers to avoid dangerous situations.
- Continuously monitors equipment/vehicles to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
- Performs and documents minor service on equipment/vehicles, referring more complicated mechanical issues to Fleet Manager for repair.
- Sorts scrap materials, placing them in designated locations.
- Flexible/work-ready to perform tasks for other departments/divisions as required to meet business needs and customer expectations.
- Working extended hours.
- Must be able to travel in the region frequently, with some out-of-town jobs that require multiple nights on the road.
Additional Job Duties if Applicant has a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License:
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of trucks, trailers, and equipment in accordance with company policy and D.O.T. regulations.
- Drives tractor-trailer to/from job sites, inspects loads, and machinery being transported.
- Verifies transportation permits (if CDL certificated) to ensure specifications for overweight and oversize loads/equipment are accurate.
- Responsible for loading, unloading, and safe transportation of equipment and/or materials to/from job site, operation of equipment at job site (if qualified), and providing assistance in the rerailing divisions and/or the track maintenance/repair/new builds divisions.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to work at heights, climb stairs, and work in hot or cold environments.
- Work outdoors in a noisy, safety-sensitive environment.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
