Job summary

City of Savannah is seeking a CDL-equipped equipment operator to manage heavy machinery and support municipal infrastructure projects. The role involves operating loaders, trucks, trailers, and rollers, while ensuring safety and timely completion of tasks.

You will inspect and maintain equipment, coordinate with the supervisor for scheduling, and document daily activities. Candidates must have a valid CDL and meet pre-employment screening requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with two years of heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver’s license.
• Background investigation, post-offer medical screen, and verification of education/licenses required before employment.

Responsibilities

• Operates front-end loader, dump trucks, gooseneck trailer, Bobcat with attachments, and steel drum roller.
• Transports heavy construction equipment to job sites.
• Inspects equipment before use and performs necessary repairs.
• Inspects job sites for hazards and ensures safe work practices.
• Maintains equipment and performs minor repairs as needed.
• Assists in maintenance of rights-of-way, streets, sidewalks, and guardrails; assists in scheduling and documenting work.
• Completes daily work reports and vehicle/equipment inspection reports.
• Sets up traffic control devices around work sites.
• Operates radio following proper protocol and responds to emergencies.

Purpose

CDL Enhancement: $10,000.00

Essential Job Functions

• Operates front-end loader and dump trucks, gooseneck trailer, Bobcat with multiple attachments, and steel drum roller
• Transports heavy construction equipment to job sites.
• Inspects equipment before use to ensure necessary repairs are made.
• Inspects job sites for possible hazards.
• Ensures proper equipment maintenance; performs minor repairs as necessary.
• Assists in the maintenance, repair, and clean-up of rights-of-way, streets, sidewalks, and guardrails; enforces safe work practices.
• Assists supervisor and crew chief in the scheduling and documentation of work; completes daily work reports; ensures that operators complete daily vehicle and equipment inspection reports.
• Sets up traffic control devices around work sites.
• Operates radio in accordance with proper radio protocol.
• Responds to emergency situations during and after normal work hours.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, with two (2) years of heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver's license.

Additional Requirements

Background investigation, including a supervised drug screen, post-offer/pre-employment medical screen, and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.
