Job summary

Qualifications

  • Operate track equipment in various conditions including night and adverse weather.
  • Maintain safe operation and housekeeping in cab/work area.
  • Be able to read and understand safety and employment requirements.
  • Complete daily paperwork accurately and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Track Equipment in all phases of operations, during normal conditions, night conditions, adverse weather, and emergencies, including hand and foot controls
  • Perform routine maintenance, and watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure they are working properly
  • Exercise good judgment about the safety and health of you and others
  • Complete and understand the paperwork necessary for this job
  • Be organized and able to execute verbal and written instructions
  • Be able to work with others and also to work independently on assigned tasks
  • Maintain good housekeeping in the cab and work area at all times
  • Accurately complete a daily timecard and other paperwork as required

An Operator operates several types of power construction equipment, such as compressors, pumps, hoists, derricks, cranes, shovels, tractors, dozers, scrapers, motor graders, and off-road rock trucks, to excavate, move, and grade earth. An operator will turn valves to control the air and water output of compressors and pumps. Adjusts hand wheels and depresses pedals to drive the machine and control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms. Repairs and maintains equipment. Ames is looking for Scraper Operators who are safe, efficient, highly skilled, and productive operators for our projects in and around Arizona CAT SCRAPER 613 UP TO BUT NOT EXCLUDING 637/GPS TRIMBLE knowledge is a plus Operator Apprentices are encouraged to apply as well.

Basic Employment Requirements
  • Be committed to working safely and to wearing all of the required safety equipment.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or acts to your immediate supervisor.
  • Pass a Pre-employment Drug Screen and Alcohol Test.
  • Free of medication that may limit or alter the ability to operate equipment in a safe manner
  • Be able to read and understand Safety and Employment requirements
  • Be dependable and consistent about attendance and punctuality
  • Willing and able to work extended hours and possible nights and weekends as required
  • Tolerate temperature extremes and changing job site conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.)
  • Be committed to helping achieve a 100% no-accident work area
  • Be committed to supporting the team to achieve its production goals at any assigned task
  • Maintain a professional attitude while learning each task and take constructive criticism as a motivation to learn
  • Arizona region will require joining and maintaining local operators' union membership.
Minimum Physical Requirements
  • Have full range of motion with neck, back, and hands, and exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously
  • Have vision at 20/40 with or without corrective lenses
  • Can hear at an average level with or without hearing devices
  • Be able to climb in/out of equipment without assistance
  • Be able to walk on uneven surfaces
  • Be able to twist, stoop, and bend while maintaining sure-footedness and balance
  • Spend about 80% of your time in motion while operating equipment
