Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator at our Inkster, MI site. The role involves processing scrap metals with crawlers, sorting materials, loading/unloading, and performing routine equipment inspections.

You will work with various brands and coordinate with drivers and customers to move materials efficiently. Ideal candidates will have a High School diploma or GED, good math and communication skills, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Physical and outdoor work daily.
• Background check and pre-employment screens required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain heavy equipment including wheeled crawler and pedestal crawlers from Caterpillar, Sennebogen, and Liebherr.
• Load and unload materials from storage, docks, and vehicles using magnets and grapples.
• Sort recyclable metals, remove non-conforming metals, and separate high-grade metals.
• Perform daily inspections on equipment and report issues.
• Position trailers and containers around the yard and assist with general housekeeping.
• Interact with customers or drivers to direct or assist them.
