Performs the skilled journey-level work required to operate and maintain various types of heavy motorized construction and repair equipment and semi-tractor trailers.
Qualifications
Required
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
- One (1) year of experience in motorized equipment operation at the journey level.
- Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
- May be required to operate a commercial motor vehicle , as defined below, and possess a Commercial Driver's License CDL-A.
- "Commercial Motor Vehicle" is defined as a motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles used in commerce to transport passengers or property if the motor vehicle has any of the following:
- A gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds inclusive of a towed unit with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds.
- A gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds.
- Is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.
- Is of any size and is used in the transportation of hazardous materials requiring placards.
- May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
- Knowledge of the methods and skills in the use of equipment, materials, and tools appropriate for motorized equipment operation.
- Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions.
- Knowledge of local, state, and national laws.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals.
- Ability to estimate time and material needs, determine when the repair is not economically practical, and perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations.
Preferred
- Completion of apprentice-level training in the operation of heavy motorized equipment.
