HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
SUMMARY
Scrap Metal Services, a leading mill services provider, is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for its Latrobe, PA location.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Learn to operate various heavy equipment safely and effectively under the guidance of a senior Equipment Operator or Supervisor.
- Move scrap materials around the yard for processing, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Gain proficiency in operating equipment such as loaders, drop-ball cranes, material handlers, excavators, and pot carriers.
- Coordinate safety and work activities with onsite personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate heavy equipment including loaders, cranes, material handlers, excavators, and pot carriers.
- Maintain yard cleanliness and safety.
- Perform daily inspections, safety checks, preventive maintenance, and report equipment issues.
- Assist with general labor duties like sweeping, raking, shoveling, snow removal, and material handling as needed.
- Cross-train in other roles and support team members.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- 3-5 years of heavy equipment operation in an industrial setting.
- Basic English literacy.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Positive attitude and reliability.
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
- Adaptability to changing conditions and schedules.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions in an industrial environment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Must pass drug screening, background check, and physical assessment.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on volume.
- Position is non-exempt with overtime eligibility.
- Starting pay at $28/hour, with increases upon training and qualification.
