Job description

The City of Public Works Department is seeking a skilled operator of heavy equipment and Class B Trucks to perform earthwork, road construction and repair, paving, maintenance of roads and parking lots, and other projects related to a Public Works operation, including activities associated with winter snow operations and the solid waste facility.

Hours

Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.Occasional non-standard hours and some weekends may be required.

Requirements

Qualified candidates will possess excellent skills in the operation of heavy snow removal tasks related to Public Works operations.

• Front-end loaders, street sweepers, rollers, and loader backhoes.
• Small hand operated equipment at times
• You may be required to perform manual labor as required
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must possess a valid Maine Commercial Driver License class A or B with an excellent driving record
• Previous experience with winter operations is desirable
• Applicants must reside within 30 road miles of the Augusta Public Works garage
• Overtime and non-standard hours in the winter and at other times will be required.

Pay Scale

This is a full-time, non-exempt, position with a comprehensive benefits package including medical insurance, a pension, and generous paid time off. Pay Range AFSCME Union Band 3: $21.48 to $26.69 per hour, depending on the skills and background of the candidate.
